Jets Hire Adam Gase As New Head Coach

What a wild ride this has been. Frankly I’m glad it’s over. The Jets have a new head coach and his name is Adam Gase.

Part of me wanted to end this blog right there but I won’t do that because we’ve all been through enough together. I’ll be honest though, I hated this move at first. I’ve been going back and forth for about 3 weeks as to who I wanted the Jets to hire and Adam Gase was never ever one of the guys I fantasized about. I wanted Kingsbury, I wanted McCarthy, I wanted Rhule; I even thought about Jim Caldwell a little bit but things took a weird turn so I’d rather not talk about it anymore. Whatever.

When I first saw the hiring on Twitter, I sulked for about 45 seconds and then I stopped. You know why? Because none of our sulking is gonna change a damn thing. It’s over. Adam Gase is the new Head Coach of the New York Jets and we need to just get behind it and think about the good things. Let’s talk about the good things.

3 years ago when Adam Gase was hired to be the HC in Miami, he was the most sought after young guy out there. He was coming off a handful of successful years in Denver and then Chicago as the Offensive Coordinator under John Fox. You might remember some of those Broncos teams, with a guy named Peyton Manning under center? He was pretty good I think. So you’re talking about a guy who already knows what it’s like to successfully build an offense around an uber-talented QB. Those are just facts. Also, if he was that bad of a coach, Peyton Manning wouldn’t have done well. Remember what Peyton’s throws were looking like by then? Once again, just facts…

I have to talk about that Rapoport tweet quickly. A lot of people are upset about trying to justify Adam Gase as a good HC by referencing Ryan Tannehill, and to that I say just shut up already. It’s not Adam Gase’s fault that Ryan Tannehill is Ryan Tannehill; he did the best he could. If someone comes in 5th place racing a Honda Accord against a bunch of dudes in Ferraris, does that make them a bad driver? or maybe they just need to get a fucking Ferrari. Chew on that one for a minute while I talk more about Adam Gase.

I absolutely didn’t read Manish Mehta’s article about Adam Gase, but I did see the headline mentioned him being a great leader. Although I’ve read a lot of stories and quotes to the contrary from people familiar with what went on in Miami and a lot of them weren’t pretty, I do believe that you can attribute a lot of that to losing football games. Guys get frustrated when they lose. We saw it here all season. Do I believe that guys will buy in to Adam Gase and the rest of his soon-to-be-constructed coaching staff? Absolutely, because once again, guys just wanna win.

Gase isn’t someone who is locked in to running any single type of offensive scheme, but rather likes to mix and match different looks and concepts based on matchups as well as the skillset of his roster, which is incredibly refreshing when we also interviewed guys like Mike McCarthy who is apparently so far behind schematically he couldn’t make things work with one of the greatest QBs of all-time in Green Bay.

I’m excited to see what Gase can cook up for Sam Darnold, and the fact that he now gets to be apart of the free agent signing process is a major positive as well. Now we have to go out and get some toys for Sam Darnold to play with. Not like plastic toys though, I mean guys who are good at scoring touchdowns, and are also maybe named Leveon. That last part isn’t necessarily a deal breaker.
